Doing an engagement shoot is brilliant fun.
That is for the couple in the picture; though I love doing them too.
I was recently featured in a style magazine article "Six reasons you need a professional photographer for your engagement" and do I ever feel pretentious saying that! All good fun though and a good excuse to divulge further into engagement photography and why couples love it.
Here is the full interview featuring links to engagement shoots:
What can you get from an engagement shoot that's different from the wedding imagery?
Leading up to a wedding there is so much excitement and anticipation, I lovely to photograph the preparation stages on the big day for that very reason, it is part of the whole story. But another key part, and for similar reasons is the engagement photography shoot. The couple are more relaxed as they have taken some time out for this moment. They talk happily of plans for their big day and with the relaxed and friendly environment I like to work in their excitement and love shines through so brightly in the photos. The resulting photos are always loved and I believe it is because the feelings they experienced at that moment are captured, the photograph is the visual memory of it and their love for one another.
What are some ways to shoot an engagement?
We'll all have already met for a good chat about the wedding day and so I’ve got to know the couple a little already. It is great if the couples choose a location special to them for the engagement shoot. This could be something they remember from growing up or where they met. Or simply a walk in a place that relaxes them, a place that makes them happy. Living on the south coast we are resplendent with locations and most often parks and woodland walks are chosen, though have also had a great shoot at Portchester Castle with Sophie and John.
It is clear to see in all of my engagement photography sessions that the couple are relaxed and enjoying it (I have even included the out-takes from Kim and Terry’s engagement photography!)
What's your most favourite thing about engagement shoots?
The people! On an engagement shoot it is just us (and occasionally a dog or two!) but with that time and relaxing space it is a great opportunity to get to know one another. I start to understand what photos will really work well for this couple for their wedding day and the couple relax and get used to being in front of the camera. (Michelle and Rich's engagement shoot is a great example of just that) We also get a chance to talk about the big day more which all helps me to create the complete visual story of new married love. Ahhhhh!
Engagement shoots can be booked to share your special moments at any location.
Just drop me a line and we can find out where best suits you.
